Why These Four Da Nang Golf Courses Work Together

Variety should come from the questions each course asks. Montgomerie Links measures 7,090 yards at its longest and uses dunes, water and angles more than dramatic elevation. Its undercover range and short-game areas make it an excellent opening course because golfers can loosen up properly after travel.

Legend Danang has two courses at one property. The Norman Course is par 72 and listed at 7,190 yards, with sandy waste areas and a running option on many shots. The Nicklaus Course is par 73 and 7,380 yards, using water and timber bulkheads to create clearer risk-and-reward decisions. A group can choose one according to ability, maintenance and preferred style.

Hoiana Shores is a par-71 Robert Trent Jones Jr. design measuring 7,004 yards. Its exposed green sites and coastal wind make landing distance more valuable than a single number to the flag. Ba Na Hills, designed by Luke Donald with IMG, stretches to 7,857 yards. It should almost never be played from the back markers by a normal holiday group, but its multiple tees let different handicaps experience the same mountain architecture.

Five-Day Da Nang Golf Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive, check in and reset

Meet the private vehicle at Da Nang airport and transfer to the hotel. Keep the first afternoon light. Assemble clubs, check shoes and arrange any rental equipment before dinner. If flights arrive before midday, use a practice session or nine holes only if everyone genuinely wants it. A full round after an overnight flight usually reduces the quality of both the golf and the evening.

Day 2: Montgomerie Links

Start with an 8:00 to 9:00 am tee time where possible. From My Khe, allow roughly 25 to 35 minutes, and less from Non Nuoc. Arrive 45 minutes early and use the range. Choose tees by normal carry distance rather than handicap alone. After golf, return to the hotel for a free afternoon or continue to Hoi An for an early dinner.

Day 3: Legend Danang Golf Resort

Legend is close to Montgomerie geographically but provides a very different second round. Select the Norman Course for firm, sandy and more ground-based golf. Select Nicklaus for water, bulkheads and a more aerial approach test. This is a good day for the main group competition because everyone has already adjusted to caddies, climate and local green grain.

Day 4: Hoiana Shores and Hoi An

Allow about 45 to 60 minutes from the My Khe beach area and arrive with enough time to practise low chips and long putts. Hoiana is the feature coastal round, so avoid a very late night beforehand. After golf, return to Hoi An rather than driving directly back to Da Nang if the group wants one cultural and dining evening. Leave enough time for showers and a relaxed meal reservation.

Day 5: Ba Na Hills, then depart or add a final night

Ba Na Hills is a strong final round because the routing and elevation feel unlike the coast. An early tee time works before a late-evening flight, but only with a large airport buffer. The better option is another hotel night and a normal departure the following morning. If the group chooses night golf, play earlier rounds on Days 2 and 3, use Day 4 as the non-golf day, then tee off at Ba Na during the official floodlit window.

Course Order and On-Course Strategy

Opening at Montgomerie reduces pressure. The course has enough width to find rhythm, while its practice facilities help golfers assess turf and speed. Use the round to establish caddie communication. Confirm yards or metres, normal iron carry and whether the group will use preferred competition tees.

Legend second creates a useful progression. On the Norman Course, allow for release and use the ground where the approach is open. On Nicklaus, choose a target that removes the largest water carry. Do not force every player onto one tee set. A mixed group can compete with handicaps while playing tees appropriate to each golfer's distance.

Hoiana belongs after the group has settled. Its wind and exposed surfaces punish tentative decisions more than minor swing faults. Ask for front and back numbers, identify the safe side and accept long birdie putts. Ba Na then changes the visual scale. Uphill shots can play longer, downhill shots require careful landing control and protected tees do not always reveal the wind above the tree line.

For tournament groups, use one major event at Legend or Montgomerie and a simpler team game at Hoiana or Ba Na. Complex scoring rules slow the field when every golfer is also learning a new course and working with a new caddie.

Tee Times, Weather and Recovery

Morning tee times are the safest default from March through August. They reduce the hottest part of the round and preserve the afternoon. In the later wet season, a morning start also creates more time to absorb a short delay, although no tee time guarantees dry weather.

October to December needs a flexible day. Instead of booking four rounds on four consecutive days, retain Day 4 or Day 5 as a movable slot until the course sequence is confirmed. Course maintenance also matters. Coring and sanding dates vary by club, so the best-looking schedule on paper may need to change if one set of greens is recovering.

Four rounds in four playing days are achievable, but recovery begins with small decisions. Use stable shoes, change wet gloves, drink regularly and avoid leaving dinner until very late every night. A 60- to 90-minute spa treatment on the non-golf afternoon can help, but the most valuable recovery is still sleep and a sensible starting time the next day.

Choosing the Right Hotel Base

My Khe is the strongest all-round base for first-time groups. It offers airport access, a broad hotel range, beach time and many dining options. Transfers to Montgomerie and Legend are straightforward, while Hoiana and Ba Na remain manageable day trips.

Non Nuoc reduces travel to Montgomerie and Legend and suits golfers prioritising a resort. The trade-off is less immediate access to central Da Nang dining. Hoi An works well for couples and smaller groups who value the Old Town, but it lengthens the Ba Na transfer. Moving hotels during a five-day trip usually saves less time than expected once packing and check-in are included.

Choose the hotel after the course rotation, not before it. Twelve golfers also need breakfast service before early collections, rooming arrangements that are easy to administer and vehicle access that does not require moving every golf bag through a crowded lobby.

Transfers and Group Timing

Working ranges from My Khe are approximately 25 to 35 minutes to Montgomerie, 25 to 40 minutes to Legend, 40 to 50 minutes to Ba Na Hills and 45 to 60 minutes to Hoiana Shores. Traffic, road works, weather and the exact hotel change those figures. Add 10 to 15 minutes for a large group to load and conduct a final bag count.

One correctly sized private vehicle is more reliable than multiple taxis. The group travels together, the driver has the return timing and the luggage bay can be planned for full travel covers. Plan to reach each clubhouse 40 to 50 minutes before play. A golf tee time is not the hotel departure time. Registration, caddie allocation, changing and warm-up all happen after arrival. Alternative Central Vietnam Golf Rotations

Replace Legend with Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An if the group is staying south of Hoi An or wants a Paspalum resort course. Replace Ba Na with Laguna Lăng Cô if the trip includes an overnight stay north of the Hải Vân Pass. Laguna is a poor rushed day trip when the group also expects a long dinner in Hoi An that evening.

For five rounds, add Vinpearl on the non-golf day only when the group is comfortable with consecutive play. For six or seven nights, add Laguna and keep the recovery day. The strongest rotation is the one the group can enjoy at full attention, not the one with the highest raw round count.
