There is a hole at Laguna Lang Co — a mid-length par-4 on the back nine — where you stand on the tee and the landscape arranges itself so completely around the shot that it becomes difficult to think about golf. To the left, the Lang Co lagoon stretches in a wide crescent of still blue water. To the right, the beach of the South China Sea is visible through the dune grass. The Hai Van Pass ridge rises behind you, and the green ahead is framed by nothing but ocean horizon. It is, by most accounts of golfers who have played it, one of the most beautiful individual holes in Asia.

Sir Nick Faldo's Laguna Lang Co design — opened as part of the Laguna Vietnam resort complex — consistently ranks among Vietnam's finest courses and frequently appears as the favourite of golfers who have played the full Da Nang circuit. The setting is its obvious calling card, but the course beneath the scenery is every bit as good as the view.

The Course: Setting and Layout

Laguna Lang Co occupies a narrow coastal strip approximately 30 kilometres north of Da Nang, just south of the Hai Van Pass. The golf course runs through three distinct zones: along the Lang Co lagoon, through an inland section of mature trees and sculpted bunkering, and along a beachfront section where the South China Sea becomes a constant visual and strategic presence.

Faldo's routing uses the site's natural geography with intelligence. The front nine tends to play around the lagoon, offering the most protected conditions and the highest birdie opportunities for players who are finding the course. The back nine introduces the beach and dune section, where the coastal breeze becomes a factor and the scoring becomes more demanding. This progression from accessible to testing gives the round a natural arc that rewards the patient player who hasn't burned all their ammunition on the front nine.

The course measures approximately 7,100 yards from the championship tees and plays to a par of 72. From the forward tees, it shortens considerably while retaining the same visual drama — a feature of Faldo's design philosophy that ensures the course is accessible to a wide range of handicaps without feeling dumbed down for the stronger players in the group.

Best Holes

The par-3s are Laguna Lang Co's most visually memorable holes. The signature par-3 over the lagoon — where the tee shot must carry directly across water to a green with minimal margin for error on the right side — is the course's most photographed hole and one of the most discussed among golfers who have played Vietnam's central coast circuit. It plays anywhere from a long iron to a short iron depending on the wind and the tee position used, and the green's left-to-right slope means the ideal approach angle varies with pin position.

The par-5s offer genuine variety. One stretches along the lagoon's edge with water threatening on the second shot for those attempting to reach in two. Another turns through the trees with a demanding long-iron third to a narrow green. The closing par-5 — reachable in two for longer hitters but guarded by a lagoon carry on the approach — is one of the most exciting finishing holes on the Vietnam circuit.

Insider Tip: Laguna Lang Co plays best in the morning, before the sea breeze develops into the prevailing afternoon wind. The front nine, hugging the lagoon, plays 2-3 clubs longer in afternoon conditions when the wind arrives off the ocean. Tee times before 8am give you the course at its fairest and its most serene — and the morning light on the lagoon is extraordinary.

Morning vs Afternoon Play

The contrast between a morning and an afternoon round at Laguna Lang Co is more pronounced than at most Vietnam courses. In the mornings — especially in the February-March dry season window — the lagoon is glassy, the sea breeze is minimal, and the course plays close to its yardage card. Greens are freshly cut and receptive. The pace of play is usually excellent.

By mid-afternoon, the sea breeze from the South China Sea has typically built to 15-20 knots, and the holes along the beach section become significantly more demanding. Par on the exposed back nine holes in an afternoon breeze requires genuine quality. For groups playing a single round, morning tee times are consistently recommended.

The Resort and Lang Co Village

The Laguna Vietnam resort complex surrounding the course includes several hotel properties, restaurants, and spa facilities. Lagoon-side dining in the evening — with the mountains reflected in the still water and fishing boats returning from the day — is one of the better meals-with-a-view experiences on the Da Nang tour.

Lang Co fishing village, a few kilometres along the coast, is worth the short detour. The village retains a working-fishing-community character that is increasingly rare in developed coastal Vietnam, and the seafood restaurants here — with produce coming directly from the boats — offer some of the most honest and authentic eating on the entire itinerary.
