Best Time to Visit Central Vietnam: Not September
Short answer: go between February and August. Don't travel to central Vietnam in September. September is when the wet and typhoon season starts on the central coast, and it runs through to December. If you are planning golf in Da Nang, a few days in Hoi An or a trip to Hue, book outside those months.
Is September a good time to visit central Vietnam? No
September is not an ideal month for Da Nang, Hoi An or Hue. Here is why:
- The rain starts. Average rainfall in Da Nang jumps from about 141 mm in August to about 351 mm in September, with rain on around 15 days of the month.
- Typhoon season begins. The central coast's typhoon and wet season runs from September to December.
- It gets wetter, not drier. October averages about 628 mm and November about 448 mm, so moving your trip a few weeks later does not help.
The courses drain well and you can often play between showers. But you are paying for a golf holiday, and September to December is the riskiest time of year to book one here.
Every month has some uncertainty
No month is guaranteed dry, and a wet day can turn up at any time of year. The difference is the odds. From February to April, Da Nang averages only about 5 rainy days a month. In October and November it averages about 20.

The best months to visit
- February to April: the driest and most comfortable time of year, and the best months for golf. Our 2027 Vietnam Series runs from late February into March for this reason.
- May to August: still mostly dry, but hot. June to August averages 28–30 °C, so book early tee times. Our August 2027 events take the last of the dry season.
- December and January: cooler, averaging 18–23 °C, with showers easing as the season ends. Playable, but not our first pick.
