Accommodation
Where to Stay in Hoi An for Golf
Old Town atmosphere, beachfront resorts or private villas between the two: Hoi An's accommodation map is simpler than it looks, and each zone pairs naturally with a different golf rhythm.
Old Town and the riverbank
The heritage centre around the Japanese Bridge and the lantern-lit riverfront is Hoi An's soul: boutique hotels in restored shophouses, tailors, cafes and the night market on your doorstep. Golfers base here for the evenings: the old town after dark is one of the great walks in Vietnam: and accept a 15 to 30 minute transfer to the courses along the coast and toward Da Nang. The lanes are pedestrian-friendly and flat; most boutique properties are small, so book the good ones early in peak season.
An Bang Beach
Three kilometres east of the old town, An Bang has grown from a fishing village into the traveller's beach strip: a long line of mid-range hotels, beach clubs and seafood restaurants along a genuinely good beach. It suits golfers who want old town access without old town quiet (or its lack of sand), and transfers to the Hoiana corridor courses run as little as ten minutes. The vibe is casual; the value is strong.
The southern coast and the Hoiana corridor
South of the Thu Bon river mouth, the coast opens into a stretch of resorts built around golf access: most notably the Hoiana integrated resort, which puts Hoiana Shores' links literally outside the door, with Ba Na Hills and the Da Nang courses 30 to 45 minutes up the coast. This is the zone for golf-first itineraries: wake, play, pool, repeat, with the old town as an evening taxi ride rather than a stroll. Large-format rooms and suites suit groups and families well here.
Villas and long-stay options
Between the old town and the beach, and scattered along the southern coast, Hoi An's villa stock is among the best in Vietnam: private pools, three to five bedrooms, housekeepers and drivers bookable by the week. For a golf group of four to eight, a villa often beats four hotel rooms on both cost and evenings: the barbecue after the fourth round is half the reason groups return. Our group tours guide covers the logistics.
Choosing by travel style
- Atmosphere and dining first: Old Town boutique.
- Beach casual with old town access: An Bang.
- Maximum golf, minimum driving: the southern coast and Hoiana corridor.
- Groups and families: a private villa between the beach and the courses.
Practical notes
Hoi An floods in the October to November heart of the wet season: streets ankle-deep, some properties closed: so central coast trips belong in the February to August window. Between bases, the Da Nang–Hoi An road is quick at breakfast hour and slow at school pick-up; time transfers accordingly. And wherever you stay, confirm golf transfers when you book accommodation, not on arrival.
Resort Stays with Golf Packages
The large resorts along the southern coast and the Hoiana corridor often bundle golf into accommodation rates: rooms, breakfast, a set number of rounds and shared course transfers under one booking. For golf-first trips this is the simplest structure available: your daily rhythm becomes wake, play, pool, dinner, with no transport to organise. Check which courses the package includes before booking; the default rounds may not be the ones you came to play, and a modest supplement usually unlocks the full list. Ask us to compare package inclusions against building the trip independently: sometimes the package wins, sometimes it does not.
Booking Windows and Season Timing
Hoi An's accommodation market is smaller than Da Nang's, so the best properties sell out earlier: four to eight weeks ahead for the February to May peak is normal for the popular boutique and resort options. June and August bring softer prices and still-reasonable weather, though afternoon showers become more likely as summer deepens. Avoid the October to November flood season entirely; the old town's charm does not compensate for streets under water, and some properties close. Confirm your stay before arranging golf so tee times can be scheduled around your base and its transfer times.
Getting Between Your Base and the Fairways
Whichever zone you choose, the transfer pattern stays simple: courses south of the river are ten to twenty minutes from An Bang and the southern coast, while the Ba Nang-side and Da Nang courses run thirty to forty-five minutes from the old town. A fixed daily driver costs less than ad-hoc taxis across a golf week and keeps your clubs with the van, not the boot of a random taxi. Confirm transfer arrangements when you book accommodation so your tee times can be set sensibly around them.
