Da Nang Golf Guide

Da Nang is the easiest golf base in Vietnam: an international airport ten minutes from the beach, four serious courses within half an hour, and a hotel strip where a five-star room costs less than a CBD motel at home. This is where most of our trips start, and where many of our groups never want to leave.

Why Da Nang works so well

The geography does the heavy lifting. The city sits on a wide bay backed by the Annamite foothills, and the golf is spread along the coast either side of it: dunes and parkland to the south, mountain golf to the west, championship layouts up the beach road. Most transfers are 15 to 40 minutes (Laguna Lăng Cô, at about an hour, is the exception), so a group can play 36 holes in a day without ever feeling rushed: and still make a 7pm dinner reservation in Hoi An. Add easy one-stop flights from every major Australian city and the famous dry-season climate, and the case writes itself.

The courses around Da Nang

Ba Na Hills Golf Club is the mountain outlier, and my pick of the region: elevation changes through forest foothills, a Luke Donald design that moves through the land rather than over it, and cooler air in the hottest months. On the coastal plain, Montgomerie Links delivers the Scottish influence its name promises: revetted-style bunkering, firm turf when the dry season bites, and a stiff finishing stretch. Legend Danang gives you two designs in one resort, with the Nicklaus course's watery amphitheatre holes the ones everyone photographs. Up the coast, Laguna Golf Lăng Cô is Faldo's legacy layout and the region's genuine championship test, worth the hour's drive at least once a trip.

Where to stay

The My Khe beach strip holds the bulk of the hotels, from international five-stars to sharp four-stars with pools a lob wedge from the sand. Non Nuoc beach to the south is quieter and closer to Montgomerie and Legend. Golf-first groups who want everything on property head to the integrated resorts; city-lovers stay around the Han River with its weekend bridge fireworks and market food. We match the base to your itinerary: the wrong side of town adds an hour a day.

Beyond the golf

Da Nang earns its evenings: the Dragon Bridge breathes fire on weekend nights, the Marble Mountains hide cave temples 20 minutes south, and the Ba Na Hills cable car climbs to the Golden Bridge and a French-village hill station that makes a genuine rest afternoon. Hoi An's lantern-lit old town is 40 minutes away: see our Hoi An destination guide: and the Hai Van Pass drive ranks among Asia's great coastal roads.

A sample week

  • Day 1: arrive Da Nang, seafood dinner on the beachfront.
  • Day 2: Ba Na Hills in the morning, city evening.
  • Day 3: Montgomerie Links, afternoon at the pool or Marble Mountains.
  • Day 4: Hoi An day: old town, tailoring, riverside dinner.
  • Day 5: Legend Danang, both nines or the Nicklaus in the afternoon.
  • Day 6: Laguna Lăng Cô or a repeat of your favourite.
  • Day 7: departure round at whichever course you cannot leave without.

Planning your Da Nang golf trip

Any length works: three nights covers the core loop, a week lets you add the coast and the mountains. The limiting factor is tee times at the flagship courses in peak season: book the golf first, build the rest around it. That is precisely what our LINKS Central holiday does, and custom itineraries start from the same logic.

Common questions

How many rounds should we play from Da Nang?

Three rounds in three nights is the sweet spot; five rounds across a week lets you add Laguna and a repeat of your favourite. Groups rarely regret an extra Ba Na Hills.

Do we need a car?

No: with a packaged trip your driver handles every transfer, and the beach strip is walkable for dinners. Independent travellers can use taxis or ride-hailing apps, which are inexpensive by Australian standards.

The seasons on the central coast

Da Nang's dry season, roughly February to August, delivers the golf this region is famous for: firm fairways, settled mornings and long light evenings. September and October stay playable with morning tee times, while November to January brings the heaviest rain: courses drain impressively, but the smart move is early starts and a flexible attitude. Whatever the month, the mountain air at Ba Na Hills runs a few degrees cooler than the beach.
